Course Description

This course aims to provide both theoretical and empirical knowledge about population ageing and related issues. In addition, this course will focus on trends and patterns of population ageing in developed and developing countries. Furthermore, it provides skills in data and measures related to population ageing, policies and programmes to analyses and evaluate issues related to older persons in different contexts.

Learning outcomes:

On the successful completion of the course student will be able to:

• Describe the concepts, definitions and measures of population ageing and gerontology.
• Apply demographic and other relevant multidisciplinary theories of ageing to understand ageing related issues
• Analyze ageing processes and its determinants in different contexts
• Evaluate the socio-economic implications of ageing and elderly wellbeing
• Compare and asses ageing related policies and programmes in developed and developing
• countries.
